inside their shadows

They lived inside their
Bodies shadows more
Than in their bodies
Themselves from which
Over a course of years
And decades they had
Slowly retreated.
Came the time their
Bodies died, if by illness
Bad luck and accidence
Or violence, and fell
To earth, their shadows
Were instead which rose
And walked.
No oddity in that, because
By then they were what had
Moved the flesh. Not like
with us whose flesh moves
Our shadows.
And thus you can imagine
They were not easy prey
To kill.
